Just touring...

So there's one month of summer left and we're all trying to get our last minute vacations in. And you know, when you're out in another country, you're repping the country you're coming from, but more importantly - you're representing all other hijabis. Now, I'm not telling you to behave, because i'm sure you've got that down, but atleast you know the next time you're touring, you'll look faaaabulous!

What i want you to focus on in the outfit above, is the jacket. Fall is quickly approaching subhanallah and stores are just starting to stock up on jackets just like the one above in all colors and materials! I was at the mall yesterday alhamdulilah and I saw a really cute biege cordurouy jacket I liked - along with quite a few others.

Remember that you'll be walking around a lot so keep your feet comfy. BUT DON'T let your father talk you into wearing men's hiking boots (story of my life haha) but rather walk around in some pretty flats - heels just won't cut it! Some non-chunky sneakers would also do well!

The turkish style hijab always spells out prim, proper, fun, and approachable - so just tie those up!

Don't forget your wide legs... or your camera!

A play on grey

They're everywhere ladies! Cardigans? Not just any cardigans.. the ones where it's long in the front, and shorter in the back (hey sounds like a bob..). These are soo great because you can dress them up or down, you can tie the front, etc.
I put a casual blouse under it, but you can also put a collared top under it, or even a cute licenced tee. You can put a thin belt around the whole cardigan and the top all together, or you can wear a thick belt over the top you're wearing and under the cardigan. You can even wear a belt over this top above - a thick black one with the cardigan over top, or a thin one around the cardigan with the blouse underneath.
I want one. i saw a few at the mall today, but I think I was craving ice cream so bad, i went straight to dairy queen and walked past it hehe. Insha allah I'll get one later.
<3>

It's a gray matter...

gray or grey? I really don't know the difference and I use them both interchangeably so excuse me if you know the difference and are getting annoyed haha. It shouldn't matter though, because what we care for is the color itself! I loove gray! It's always in.

What else do I love, you ask? wrap dresses! (check previous post; all wrapped up). I would wear this gray dress with white wide leg pants (wide yoga pants would work as well) because there are white accents on the gray dress. How do you wear the hijab? You don't want to button the shirt up right to the top, because then you'll look all stuffed in there, so you unbutton the dress a few down (3-5) and tuck the hijab in where the top is open. p.s. you're not having deja vu, I've mentioned this before ;)

Of course, I had to include food.. :D

Hijab Poem

There are are a lot of hijabi poems out there that are really inspiring. It seems a little harsh when it compares a girl in hijab to a girl who dresses immodestly, but it's still one of my favorites. The author is unknown which really sucks because the poem is so good I think they need some recognition. I know a sister who when I gave her this poem, she printed it out, framed it and put it up in her room as a little inspirational reminder everyday. It's really fun and modern. Loove it!

Baby, it's all good!
Author unknown
What do you see when you look at me
Do you see someone limited, or someone free
All some people can do is just look and stare
Simply because they can't see my hair
Others think I am controlled and uneducated
They think that I am limited and un-liberated
They are so thankful that they are not me
Because they would like to remain 'free'
Well free isn't exactly the word I would've used
Describing women who are cheated on and abused
They think that I do not have opinions or voice
They think that being hooded isn't my choice
They think that the hood makes me look caged
That my husband or dad are totally outraged
All they can do is look at me in fear
And in my eye there is a tear
Not because I have been stared at or made fun of
But because people are ignoring the One up above
On the day of judgment they will be the fools
Because they were too ashamed to play by their own rules
Maybe the guys won't think I am a cutie
But at least I am filled with more inner beauty
See I have declined from being a guy's toy
Because I won't let myself be controlled by a boy
Real men are able to appreciate my mind
And aren't busy looking at my behind
Hooded girls are the ones really helping the Muslim cause
The role that we play definitely deserves applause
I will be recognized because I am smart and bright
And because some people are inspired by my sightThe smart ones are attracted by my tranquility
In the back of their mind they wish they were me
We have the strength to do what we think is right
Even if it means putting up a life long fight
You see we are not controlled by a mini skirt and tight shirt
We are given only respect, and never treated like dirt
So you see, we are the ones that are free and liberated
We are not the ones that are sexually terrorized and violated
We are the ones that are free and pure
We're free of STD's that have no cure
So when people ask you how you feel about the hood
Just sum it up by saying, 'Baby its all good'

It's all navy, baby ! ; How to spice up that drab school uniform!

What is with islamic schools choosing white and navy as their uniform colors? Who cares! It looks good- and the colors are so basic that you can do pretty much anything with them! A sister asked me how she could spice up her school uniform of a navy skirt and white tunic with a hijab of any color. Here goes girls.. I had to stop myself from showing you more outfits so I could go to bed haha.

This photo above is one I made of various white tunics and how to spice them up - very simple, you can probably go to your wardrobe and create a few new outfits from what you already have!

This post is kind of like a whole lot of my hijabifashionista tips in one! Here's one you might remember; "When you're having one of those mornings where you don't know what to wear and you don't really feel like thinking about it, wear a simple top and a nice hijab." ... or something along those lines (from a previous post). This fits well with the top ensemble on the bottom of the picture above -a simple babydoll and a nice turkish style hijab... THEEEN a long necklace, and you're good to go.. actually even better, you're looking finnne sister hah.

When you're going to the mall for those back to school outfits, be sure to pick up a decorated white tunic, one with that "little extra" already attached. This works well with the tunic right smack in the middle of the pic above. This way, you can look good with little or no effort - just a nice navy hijab to compliment the accents on the top!

Something REALLY simple that looks really well put together is a vest over that white tunic. With a nice hijab that works well with the style of the vest you're good to go!

Last but certainly not least... a cardigan over a nice white tunic is a light, simple and great look to go for!

This outfit above is one I made just to show you that you can wear a navy skirt with a few white accents without breaking any rules--- you're just bending them a bit, and you're still being modest so it's all good! A cute gladiator sandal can go a long way!

For those days that you want to look just a little more special - or maybe you're just sick of wearing skirts all the time and you don't have gym class, instead of wearing a skirt, wear a navy dress. Cover up the top (usually the most formal part of the dress) with a blazer that you DEF. need if you're going to work with this uniform for a whole year. Just don't go with heels or anything-- unless you really feel like it, to dress it down, just wear a casual flat.

Now this is a picture of a bunch of ways you could quickly spice up that outfit without stressing in front of the mirror every morning. A long necklace will spice up any white tunic. If you can't find any long ones in the stores, but one you like and attach string to the back and keep that part tucked under your hijab (check verry early posts for this tip with more detail). Buy some necklaces (or you might have them in your closet) with really large charms at the end.

Footwear is easy, footwear is great. Don't underestimate the power of footwear - it can make or break an outfit.

Bags, bags. Backpacks are for uni students and little children - in highschool, there's no need. Big bags are what's up and you'll always look stylin no matter what.

Hope I helped! I kinda wish I had a uniform now!

Red Miranda Kuwaiti Al Amira Hijab

Kuwaiti Al Amira Hijab ( also known as the "Mona" style) has attatched shayla and satin edgeing. The stretchy al amira tube is simply pulled over the head and neck. Then the attatched shayla is wrapped over the head and pinned. This chic style is very popular among teenage muslimahs!

http://www.almuhajabaelaniqa.com/red-miranda-kuwaiti-al-amira-hijab.html

Going out for lunch..

salaam sisters!
So a sister asked me what to wear with a white tunic with embroidery around the cuffs, and I believe I'm a bit late in the reply, and i'm sure you still looked great masha allah, but maybe for the next time you wear it you'll have a different spin on things.

Now, the most basic thing to do is wear a hijab the color of the embroidery- seeing as you can wear anything with white as long as it works with the style of the top. This is a very basic, clean cut look.

Another idea is to wear a hijab in a solid tone (don't choose a random color haha, rather, choose the dominant color of the top) and wear a headband the color of the embroidery underneath.

Just remember not to wear a hijab with embroidery as well - or else the hijab and the tunic will be competing, and the outfit won't be balanced.

Sorry it was a little late... Let me know what you wore, and if this post will encourage you to wear it a different style the next time. ;)

Introduucccinng... The middleground between skinny jean and wide leg, and totally hijabi appropriate!

SHUUUT UP! Guess what's aback sisters?? The pouf pant.. mooooove over MC hammer because these are much more stylish and well tailored! Khalas, I'm in looove!

SOOO anyway, i was trying to think of a way to introduce these pants to my blog, and i came up with muchos ideas and decided to just add them in when I felt they went with the ensemble I was creating. So I went on creating, and finally ALMOST finished one outfit -- the pants were missing! :o :( :o ;( <--- wow these are fun! ANYWAY I couldn't just settle on wide leg for this dress, it was too 50's chic... so i was like skinny jeans! and then my mind went all "i thought we discussed this already asma.. not hijabi appropriate" and I sighed and then it was like EUREKA! pouf pant! I believe they work quite well .
I'm loving this outfit! Are you loving the oufit? The pouf pant?

Outdoor get together

We hijabifashionistas like to dress up, and although we don't go out formally dressed everyday, we certainly like to sometimes. So next time you're planning a party, choose a nice restaurant - so you and your friends can dress up and wear your hijabs at the same time. Here's a chic outfit that you can surely pull off.

Take out that dress in your closet that you wore once before (i think everyone has a dress of this style somewhere in their closet, and if not, just choose another), and pair it with a cropped cardigan - wear it open or buttoned up, it's really about your comfort level.

pair that dress and cardigan combo with a well tailored trouser (i'm an advocate for white this season). Put on your ankle boots, and that new vintage cuff you just purchased and you're just about ready.
What's left other than your hijab! Don't be afraid to wear that fancier one you have, I knooooooowwww you're used to wearing your solid colored hijabs, but this is an occasion, don't be afraid to go a bit more festive!

Cheers!

Black and white.. and blue..

We all need that burst of color in that stylish blob of black and white. Put it in your hijab, or your bangle, or a scarf, maybe a belt.. you footwear? the possibilities are endless - as fashion always is, and so express yourselves sisters!

High waisted trousers put you on a high pedestol in the fashion world

They're only becoming more in fashion - so what's holding you back? you most likely already have wide leg trousers/jeans, so now i'm advising you to invest in another pair - but this time, high waisted. with high waisted trousers, you can wear practically any top - plain, fancy, WHATEVER! This is what makes them such a good investment. I can just see a woman wearing this outfit above - looking very classy. Going to class, to work at the office, to meet a client, to meet your sister in law, whatever! this outfit is everything appropriate! I would wear the thin belt right wear the top of the trouser meets the blouse. It's not about needing a belt at all ( i mean you could go without it) , but it really pulls the outfit together, when you have the shoes and the bag the same style as the belt.

more ways to wear high waisted trousers:

Put a jacket and hijab over ashley above on the left, and you're set. The retro sunglasses add that little something. For ashley on the right, a leather jacket is balanced out with an oversize clutch in a coral-ish tone. throw over a hijab and you're out the door, or wear a loose formal blouse in a brigh color to add to the festiveness of the oversize clutch.

Mary kate is always dressed in everything oversized - bags, jackets, sunglasses and now, even trousers. So if you don't find your size in the store (because everyone wants a pair, you know hehe) then it's okay to go a size or two higher, great actually! The belts you accessorize the trousers with can essentially make or break the outfit. With something as loose at the top of the pant like mary kate on the right, she did well putting on a large belt rather than a thin one. Let the belt hang loose like MK on the right if you're going for an effortless look, or tie it in prim and proper if you're going for a cleaner , crisper look. Pairing the pants with a collared blouse is a great look too (and if you recall from an older post, tuck that hijab into the collared top and leave the buttons open like 3/5 down with the hijab material covering what the shirt isn't!).

Wow! hijabifashionista tips are just jam packed in here! Look efforlessly chic with these great, modest trousers.
Sisters, when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade! thus you know, when the fashion item is something modest and hijabifriendly (as this is), then take advantage of it!

Prints: Mod

No.. mod isn't short for modest, although here, in this hijabifashionista's blog - it can be.
So the 'mod' look is all about prints- but as fashionistas (let along hijabifashionistas) we're not going to push it, so we're going to keep the patterns in the short sleeved top and the accessories - the sunglasses. Soooo unlike the last post, where there is a lot of pattern in the tunics and none at all in the accessories, here, we are putting very little pattern in the top, and a lot of pattern in the extreme sunglasses. You can also keep the top solid and wear a patterned hijab, but if you do that, don't wear patterned sunglasses (too much clash), but rather, wear a patterned bag or shoes.

Making Wild prints chic

The outfit above was inspired by the crazy piece of art below. I decided to challenge myself and put together outfits with tons of prints, so I chose two shirts with crazy prints that I thought most women (not just hijabis) would over look. Now you don't have to because I think there's a pretty cool example on how to wear those crazy printed tunics, so here are some tips;

--> DO NOT wear a crazy printed hijab with a crazy printed top
--> to be safe, just let the tunic be printed, and don't wear anything else printed (keep the rest solid)
--> if you're REALLY persistant on wearing more prints, make it in the shoes, or maybe the underscarf, so it's just peeping out of your hijab, or maybe the bag (but unless you do it well, the bag and the underscarf are pushing it)
--> Take one color from the printed top and use it in your hijab and shoes and bag..
--> ALWAYS keep pants solid if you're wearing a printed top.
--> To make a crazy printed top settle down a bit (hehe) just add some bangles in a solid color (a color from the tunic)

RUDE AWAKENING: a sister reminded me about hijabis not wearing clothing with pictures of people/animate objects on it. SO DON'T! hehe hahaha. BUT! Don't let that put you off prints! Because as much as you definatly wouldn't wear that exact tunic, you definatly can wear prints!! :D

For Noots and her Rainboots

Rainboots! Looking great even if you're trudging in the mud! Hehe. to tell you the truth, If I owned a pair I really liked, I would wear them more often than when it rains! :D

So the brown ones on the left are a lot more subtle and workable than the ones on the right. For those ones, you could definatly wear jeans and look great too. For a top, you can basically wear any top in any color (but don't push it), but to be safe, I chose a brown blazer ( I own one I really like) and a long sleeve underneath. Did you notice how I used the dominant color of the boot for the hijab - that one piece, and the color used less (the chocolate brown) on both the tops? This way, it all balances out! viola!

For the outfit on the right, I did almost the opposite. I took the dominant color of this crazy patterned boot and ran with it. I used it in both the cardigan and hijab -- sisters, that's a lot of pink! If you're using so much of one color, make sure you keep it solid so that you're not blinding everyone around you. I took that blue from the boot and put it in bracelets. Now, the boots are very child like (that's the style in 'em) but, that doesn't mean you're supposed to look like a child. You have to make it look little more sophisticated with nice, clean solid colors. I put white pants with these boots, and a white top under the pink cardigan. Now, notice the cardigan is cropped. This is so that the colors are split up and you don't look like a pink blob walking down the street. Instead, you look like a chic hijabi who can make those crazy rainboots look mature and sophisticated. Now, who else can say that?

The outfit together looks great, so don't shy away from those funky rainboots, they're an easy way to turn up the fun on that suit so you can look chic while shopping with your friends, or maybe you were at an office meeting all day, just switch from those pumps into those comfy rainboots and shake off the glamour - you're having fun tonight!
<3>

Oh hijab, we want to wear you.. why can't we find you anywhere?

Ameen! Where are all these hijabs hiding? I've founnnnd 'em!
An aussie sister asked where she could find hijabs that we'ren't so expensive. For me, when I'm shopping online for a hijab, they had better be super cheap because i have to pay around 10 dollars just for shipping anyway. I think this is the situation for all of us - unless you live in the country shipping them out! Sooo,,,, here are my uber short reviews on a few hijab websites i use in the outfits I make for this blog!

1) I think you all guessed this one;
The hijab shop! thehijabshop.com
this site has sooooooooooooo many hijabs to choose from you need like a few hours just to choose! But it doesn't matter because whatever you choose is going to look great anyway because they're all so nice! It's a british shop so if you live in Europe, I suggest you shop there! the prices are around 6 pounds, yay!

2) muslimbase.com
muslimbase has a large selection of not only hijabs, but books, pins, audio.. stuff, clothing, 'great gift ideas', and a bunch of other things worth checking out! They even have the bonnet caps that go under your hijab! What's more? Their most expensive hijab is 7.99 pounds and it goes down from there!!

3) hijablady.com

4) hijabworld.com

5) modestworld.com

6) everythingislamic.com

7) thecanadianmuslim.ca

8) pinzpinzpinz.com

9)2hijab.com

10) scarfworld.com

sisters, there are soooo many more, but if you don't find anything or you're not into online shopping, here are some OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO:

--> If you're just getting bored with the hijabs you own, just go to a store at the mall - something like forever21 or an accessory store and buy nice headbands you can wear under your solid color scarves!
--> go to a 'halal food store' and see if they have hijabs there
--> go to any store in the mall and see if they have "pashmina scarves' or any scarves for that matter. I bought some at a le chateau outlet, and i know that winners has like a million for the summer that girls wear on their necks or as shawls.. just make sure they're big enough to cover your hair.
--> if you
-->go to a fabric store (we have fabric land here) and buy a meter of whatever you like and use that sewing machine collecting dust and sew your own!
-->trade some of your hijabs with your friends
--> wait for your birthday and make sure all you friends know you want hijabs! HAHA i'm KIDDING!

Where to find Caftans...

Soooo.. as you've probably learned, I LOVE CAFTANS! hehe. A sister asked me where I was finding all these wonderful caftans and so here is my answeeerrrrr: (ooo this is kind of like holy designers, just different! 2 birds, 2 birds, with one stonnne, one stonnee [yes, i totally just sang])

#1:

Vivre.com has a large selection - just type in "caftan" in the search and voila! vivre! haha i'm funny. ANYWAY, the downside is that vivre is mucho expensive.. meaning it needs mucho dolares! also means.. asma is sad.

This is a Micheal Kors dress who is definatly one of my favorite designers.. no wonder vivre is so pricey!
#2:

Victoriassecret.com has a smaller selection, but they're cute... their caftans are more like tunics, but they're like around 25 -60 dollars so i'm happy.

Looks revealing here, but we can hijabify it in a FLASH! hijab will cover your chest, but tuck it in so you show the embroidery, and some brown pantalones? sound good? Si! If you want a longer caftanish thing, then buy a longer dress from them (they do have those! see "victoria's got a secret" post) and wear a tunic over that.

#3:

softsurroundings.com has a large selection. I did a holy designers post on them before.. I THINK. or maybe i forgot to do that but i was thinking about it. Hmmm. I don't remember. Anyway, softsurroundings.com Their caftans are around 100$ but that's still a good price because their caftans are a little arabian looking --> SO NICE!

for some reason, none of the caftans from here are loading, so to jump to my favorite one with this quick link;

#4:

jpeterman.com is where i got the GORGEOUS caftan in my last post, they also have more there! GOORRGEEOUS

#5:

Want the most goorgeous caftans though? My top fav are moroccan caftans because they have a belt in the middle and they are always sooo pretty!

e-mosaik.com

Loove it! THey EVEN HAVE VINTAGE CAFTANS! LIKE WHODAWHATAAAA?
The downside? they're like 300$+ so... maybe if you're going to a wedding.. or if it's your wedding...heh

Those were just a few! think considering the prices, the one i would shop at is softsurroundings.com because they may not be the cheapest, so when it comes to prices they're somewhere in the middle, but I think the quality is great and the look is even better! if you want the chicness, but not the pricyness, i would shop at ebay!
Hope I helped sister!!

Street Style, hijabified!

So again, I was surfing the net looking at some serious street style. Of course, I always stop by fashionmagazine.com because the street style they find is always so chic. Fashion magazine is my one of my favorite magazines period. It's just everything I need out of a fashion magazine. The first time i picked one up is actually because i couldn't find my usual teen vogue, but once i opened it up I loved it immediatly.

Anyway, when I came across this picture in their "fashion lovelies" section, I fell in love with this skirt and decided it would be perfect for a hijabifashionista - i mean, it's chic like a longer skirt, it's fashionable like a shorter skirt, and it would actually show off your boots! Imagine an emerald greenish boot with a matching tick belt and a biege cardigan and hijab? AHHH i could go on to how to dress this skirt up - but i'm still looking around for a skirt at this length and style, so if anyone comes across one, just comment it up!!

What else can we take from this outfit?

--> Like I always say, just because you're wearing a hijab on your head, doesn't mean you can't wear one on your neck! It looks awesome! Try it out!

--> Bangles, cuffs, bracelets! Looove it!

<3 Hijabi Fashionista

I LOVE CAFTANS!

caftans, caftans! I love caftans! I entered this outfit (and the discription below) to a contest on creating a tropical outfit:

This is my interpretation of an outfit that not only I, but any hijabi would wear on a tropical vacation. The beauty in my surroundings - the ocean, the clouds, the blue blue sky, the mountain range - are all reflected in the outfit. Nothing is better for a breezy, warm day or night than a caftan - it screams fashionable and beautiful. The billowy, flowy-ness of a caftan makes it wearable for a woman of any shape/size. A pair of gladiator sandals, even dating back decades in fashion (my mother ... too wore them back in the day) are still beautif ul today, and I thought they would be a great addition to this outfit. For a tropical vacation - or just for the summer, wear a hijab wrapped in a fun style. With this outfit - inspired by the beauty of my surroundings, I can stand on my hotel balcony and look out at the ocean and it's waves, I can look out at the rolling clouds, and the gorgeous hills and mountains in the distance, I can look at all this beauty... and feel like I'm a part of it. Subahannallah I would say. Subhannallah.

Brooches!

again, we're taking inspiration from a fashion photo - this one is chanel!

We're lucky that scarves are what have been in for the past few seasons! I remember going to school months back and a lot of girls (non muslim girls) were wearing scarves on their heads. I was a little confused for a second, but then i remembered the runways and it was all smiles from there.
My friend that lives in london was telling me at camp how there are a lot of mannequins in store windows dressed up in hijab-type fashions (high fashion stores).

So sisters, let's take advantage of today's fashion and dress up those hijabs! How?

hijabifashionista tip:
another way to dress up a headscarf is by adding brooches to the side. Make sure you don't over-do it, but a lot of brooches can look chic, it just depends on how you put it all together.

As you can tell from the past few outfits i put together, I'm really into gloves! they just scream chic to me, but vintage as well - and that's how i like it!

This is a very clean look. But the heavenly whites are brought back down to earth with the purple accents. An oversize clutch is always fab and cuffs are what this season is all about!

Taking Inspiration from a fashion photo!

Magazines. 'nuff said.
ALL we see in magazines and in bilboards on our ways to work or school, or to the mall - are fashion photos - women in clothing that we would never wear. Or would we?

If you look at the outfit above, you may be thinking - how did she get THAT from THAT? ORR you may be thinking 'I can see a connection.. but I'm not sure what it is.. .' . Let me clarify, sister.

When you see a photo you like, there are a lot of things you could take from it and incorporate it into an everyday wearable outfit - this goes for what you see on the runway as well.

--> The color scheme in the clothing. Black and silver. BEAAAAUTIFUL! I saw this and immediatly said I was going to make those the colors of the outfit. If you don't want to have a whole outfit with those colors, make it so that one piece at least incorporates it. Like an accessory - a bag, hijab, headband, clutch...

--> The pattern in the outfit. you may like a certain pattern - like the one in the huge bow the model is sporting. I took that and put it into a clutch - I could have went for a top with a huge bow on it, but I chose not to follow the outfit to the letter and used the pattern instead.

--> Even the makeup. Not necessarily in this photo (although if you're into it.. by all means..!) but in another ad where you can't think of anything else you can take from it- just go for the makeup, it is often enough.

--> The style of the ad. I see an elegance. A bold elegance. So i went for a long, chic trench (soo hijabifriendly) and very shimmery (but not too much) touches, like the dress you wear over gray pants, or the heels. To me, long gloves just SCREAM elegance so go for it!

GET THIS LOOK:

p.s. I usually just put the sites of the main pieces from the outfits I make- like the ones you might not be able to find anywhere else, but if you want to know other pieces, just comment ;)

Step two: Put on the neck cover or al amira hood to ensure neck and chest coverage*. Note: An al amira hood, or neck cover will not fully cover your bust. You'll need something else in addition to it.
Step three: Drape the Laila Hijabicap on top of your head. Tie or pin the two long end pieces at the nape of your neck just below your bun.
Step four: Wrap the Hijabicap neckpieces around your neck and pin with broaches. Then tuck the back pieces up under your bun. Second style option: leave the back tail piece down and the neck pieces free to rest on your shoulders as shown in the picture. Done!

Away for a week...

Assalamualimum Sisters!

Hope you are enjoying this blog! Anyway I'm going to be gone for a week at camp - which means that there won't be any new posts until saturday. I didn't want to just dissapear and leave all you fashionistas hanging, so I decided I would let you know right here! So you don't have to leave, just read older posts, or look at the shopping list at the bottom of the page and click on the links in that list - it'll take you to posts on those particular pieces. OR if you would prefer, just browse all the older posts - enjoy yourselves!

<3 HijabiFashionista

P.S. while packing for camp, i had to take a min amount of clothing (of course, my suitcase is overflowing but what can i say?) and so creating outfits with the clothing I had was fun and surprising! Surprising because there are so many ways you can wear a top - maybe this week, you could go through your drawers and figure out diff ways to wear a top - maybe add a belt, maybe add another top, maybe a new hijab.... it's limitless!!

Seeing Double: Missoni

So missoni has me seeing double - maybe a lot more, because I can make a lot more than two outfits out of this one.. but 'seeing double' seemed like a more suitable title than 'seeing a gazillion' so we'll leave it at that.

I fell in love with this waistcoat since I first saw it in teenvogue.. or was it instyle? i don't remember because I read too many magazines.. oh well. haha. Well, I fell in love with it. It comes in a gold which is BEAUUTIFUL but I only found this one online. So, I challenged myself to make outfits out of it, trying to decide that if I had the money, whether or not it was a worthwhile buy. The verdict? Considering the different ways you could wear it, it is a yes.

A Lesson in Layering

Here, there is an important lesson to learn - layering a different way. Layering leathers is fun, because you'll end up with something unique. I took a leather vest in a medium brown and put a dark brown leather jacket over top. The pants are a light brown/beige. What does this do? It adds depth to your outfit! Keeping that in mind, will keep you looking chic.
Then those ankle boots - oh la ilah! Those are beautiful! BEAUTIFUL! If you see something in a store that is just BEAUTIFUL and has that effect on you - buy them. Tell your conscience to shut up and let you be a compulsive buyer for a second. You'll find an outfit for them - and like above, it will always look great.
Actually, don't follow that compulsive shopping tip - it has me broke.. haha! but aren't they beautiful?
Looooving this outfit! You too? or not so much?
P.S. you would wear the jacket open - to show the layers in the oufit, and to keep it loose

Be Original

Salaam sisterrrss!!

I decided I wouldn't be greedy and that I would share a qoute I live by (when we're talking fashion that is ;) ) ;

Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn!

DUNDARRARAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Wow! what a piece of advice! hot diggity damn! Ameen to that! (Alrigghht I'll calm down).

hijabifashionista tip:

When you're trying to decide what to wear - don't think about who's going to be seeing you, but that kind of statement you want to make. And remember, you don't always have to make a statement, because wearing the hijab, already is. I'm a confident woman, who has more things to offer to the world than my beauty.

Now! We've all seen them; those off the shoulder tops, and we're always thinking, eww or i could never wear that, it's too revealing! well then here's a tip sister, cover it up! I didn't go with a turqouise long sleeve to match - nope, instead I went with a purple! BAYAAM!

Get out there and challenge fashion girls! See what you can put together!

Street Style: Model Inspired

So models are always looking good during fashion weeks - let alone most of the time, this outfit is one from a past season, where a model is just dressed for herself - not any designers or anything anyway. As much as I like the individualism of her outfit, it obviously isn't hijab friendly, so I'm taking her street style - and making it our own.

Stripes are nice but an overload aren't nice on the eyes, and horozontals can make a person look wider - so to break it up, wear a vest or a nice coat/jacket.

Really wide legs are all the rage - and the fashion gossip is that looks from the seventies will be back by fall - so really wide bell bottoms - buy 'em, wear 'em.

The striped things are not really sleeves although I am using them so - they are actually legwarmers- and although they are not hijabi friendly for our legs, they certainly are for our arms. They sell these everywhere -just check out a little girl's accessory store - like Claires or Ardenes.

Street Style

So I'm really into street style, and I'm always checking out street style blogs- but the only hijabis i see on street style blogs, are those in turkish street style blogs. Sooo I decided I would make hijabi street style outfits. Here goes!

If you're looking for an alternative from pants, or skirts, or abayas or whatever else, buy a pair of wide leg capris. I found some long ones in the mall the other day, and looked for some one the internet and came up with these. Then I paired them with my favorite things - boots that don't have any one shape to them, and if you're worried you can always wear leggings under.

If you're NOT looking for an alternative to your wide leg full length pants, but want to show off those new boots, all you have to do, is roll up those wide legs a bit and maybe even safety pin that part of the pant to the boot (my secret).

Vintage-er!

OKay, okay! So I'm in the vintage mood! What can I say?
But there is something else I seem to be in the mood for - telling my secrets. What is it with me giving you all my secrets? Oh well, I guess a secret's no fun unless you spill it once in a while! Plus, I'm sure you'll enjoy using them ;) |(DOOO IT!).

Oooooooooh! the frame on this one!

ANYWAY! Back to the secret, see those bracelets over there? They are not for your arms. They're for your legs! Wear them over the boots, either at the very top (although the skirt will cover those.. so nevermind) or wear them at the bottom - that's where I always put them! They addd that little something to those otherwise just black boots.

Nooww... Here's another secret, that I think people should be more willing to do. Shop at flea markets, and second hand shops! Why not? Well, I'm totally into it, but I have an older sister and the rest of my family who are totally NOT! Even for inspiration, they're great places to go. My friend and I just went to a flea market the past week - it was like a lot of garage sales (yay!) and we bought a purse that was sooo old.. leather, and the nicest designs... but verry vintage (BUT ONLY 5 DOLLARS! can I get a takbeer and allahu akbar? haha). And no, you may not be comfortable with wearing things second hand - i stay away from clothing most of the time - it's the accessories that I'm in love with! There's just something about them! The nice old women who are selling them, or I think to myself the history of that one piece of jewlery - who has seen it? who complimented the old woman back in the day for it, and I cannot help but buy it! So like I said, if you're not into the clothing, wear all new vintage inspired clothing and wear real vintage accessories! I sew a lot so second hand clothing is cool and cheap for my experimenting. If you are into the clothing, buy that one of a kind cardigan and wear a new belt from forever21 (like the one above) and a new hijab!

The sunglasses don't have to be real vintage - you'll find vintage inspired ones everywhere. I bought sunglasses from the flea market, they're like old man sunglasses but I love them and my friend swore they looked good on me so alhamdulilah I bought them too!

Also, since I'm all into the no-wasting (as is reccomended in islam), here's an idea. You don't have to go to a second hand shop. I know you can do this on Earth day, but what about a ramadan party? Invite your friends for dinner and tell everyone to bring clothing they don't wear anymore - scarves, beads, tops, skirts, blah blah.. and trade off! Then, the remaining clothing, donate to a drive at your mosque, or even a church nearby if your masjid doesn't do it! Because, one hijabi's trash is another hijabi's treasure!

Sincerly, Vintage.

Okay, I am loving this outfit. WHy? Because I've adopted the vintage/indie look as my own style - but then again, you know me, my style depends on what I want to say that day.

I went with a really vintage looking skirt - brown and that mustardy color (which I used to hate, but now love! Doesn't this outfit make you like that color again?) Browns, grays, blacks, taupy whites, and beiges are all a part of the vintage color spectrum - in my opinion- but it's MORE than that! You know what it's about? It's about texture, it's about style. Like, You can pull off a vintage look with, say, a lime green bag if it's got the right style. Or maybe it's made out of a tweed or something rough and different like that.

Plus, what says vintage more than gloves? Actually, there is one thing, a RING on the gloves. BAYAAM! woooah it could be like in the lord of the rings, where he puts on the ring and goes into.. scary land..? But this one, well, it takes your style back in time!

Now we're looking at that skirt and saying, ASMA!!? That's skirt is too SHORT!? But sisters, here's a tip. I love legwarmers, and while i was looking at pieces for this outfit i was like, "EUREKA!" and it just came to me! For one thing, it's hard to find tall boots - except for in a high fashion store (and then it's pricey.. and waiting for the sale may take too long), and finding high boots that aren't clingy is even harder (unless you find an indie style store, it's easy ;) ) Soooo whatcha doooo, is you buy legwarmers (and don't wear them all pulled up sisters, then they are going to be clingy.. wear them bunched up! With flats! Cute! Chic! Vintage!) They're loose and they will go up to your skirt.. and if they're too short - wear two on one leg! Yesss! The hijabifashionista strikes again!

Success! What do you think?

Twinkle Toes

I've decided I want to do ballet -- but the fact that I'm terribly ungraceful really takes away from it. --I always thought my leaps were nice, but I did one in front of a mirror and figured out why my friends always laugh at me when we're running on the track and I suddenly do a leap. HAHHAHA.. I"M TERRIBLE! So i've decided that I should wear a ballerina inspired outfit and that that should be enough to satisfy me. Here's the basis. A suuppper cute tunic with WHITE wide leg pants (remember what we said about white wide legs? summerrr-yyy!) I was going to make the flats like, red or something and switch it up, but then I decided that these were too cute to leave for another outfit ;). That's just me though - ballerinas don't just wear pink... you can totally switch up the colors- red would look nice, it'd be that POP!

HijabiFashionista Tip:

Add a flower or a broach to your hijab to spice it up a bit!

Don't let that dress collect dust- put it to use!

We alllllll do it! We buy that gorgeous dress for that one wedding or special occasion and never wear it again, because it's not hijabi so we can only wear it at all sister's parties and if we wear it to a party within the century someone will remember we wore it to that last one. UH-OH! then, after the party is over, and you've had your fun you get overcome by regret. The dress doesn't seem too great once your credit card bill comes gallavanting in the mail (those darn bills!).

SO WHAT"S A GIRL TO DO? Allah doesn't like it when we waste, so let's not. Go into your closet and dig deep in the corners for all those dresses. Use the outfit above to dress it down, and make it ready to wear everyday, or just transform it with another top or some accessories so you can wear it at that next party -save you money, and no one will notice - (and like I always say) those who DO notice, will just think you're creative!

What I did in the outfit above, was I took a very formal dress, and added a top from oldnavy with the same dominant color. Then, a hijab to match, and a belt to pull it all together. Plus, who doesn't love a wrap up gladiator sandal? I certainly do!

NOOOOOWW you're wondering, what's this crazy sister doing with leggings on the side of the page? Sisters, you're about to hear something that may save you as a hijabifashionista! I'm always talking about sleeves - like " if you think it's too hot to wear a long sleeve under the tee just wear sleeves. " And you're like, where do I get these infamous SLEEVES you're always talking about? hehe well besides ebay and some muslim stores on the net (also on the right hand side of the blog), just go to the mall, buy some leggings in the smallest size, cut them to the right lenth and use them as sleeves! I do it sisters! It works, it's cheap, it's convinient, and it's copyrighted as of.. now! hehe

Hope you enjoyed this look, and will recover those dresses from your closet! Let's not waste now, sisters!

Lounging around the Campfire

Insha allah, this monday I will be off to a muslim girl's camp. I looove this camp - it's one of my fav times of the year! (sounds like christmas hahhahaheeeeeeeee) Muslim girls/ women of all ages attend and we discuss issues, islam, prepare skits with our cabins, swim, and basically have FUN! One of my fav times at camp is camp fires because you're sooo tired, it's past ten and you've been swimming for hours, you just had a snack and prayed il-isha, the warm fire just puts you into a trance. Ummmmm! It's all good and special until one sister starts bellowing out camp songs- ahahahaha! Please don't ruin tala3albadr, I loved the song! hehe
Sooooooooooo I wanted to pay tribute to camp with a little outfit.

Hijabifashionista tip:
If you're going for the I'm- too- tired -so- I'm -gonna- wear- sweats look, just keep in mind that you don't have to wear the boring gray sweat pants and some ugly (although very comfy) sweatshirt your team won playing soccer way back when. INSTEAD go out and buy a cute, comfortable hoodie - in bright colors, or fun patterns!

P.S. I'm not all about brand names, And I don't think that being fashionable means wearing brand names, I was just browsing for white sweats. IN fact, (and this is just me) brand names all over your outfit is just plain old trenndaaaaaaayyyyyyy. Which is okay too, if your into that!
