MODESTY ON THE RUNWAY : SAFARI SUITS

This is the first installment of my coverage of spring fashion trends. What I love about these safari suits is that they are all about being covered up. In the looks featured above, you can see that the safari suit trend can be anything from playful to elegant to understated.

However you wear them, I'd suggest that you go for a longer jacket to provide the proper coverage and I'd also go for a wider leg pant than those featured on the models above. And don't forget about the accessories. A little animal print - maybe a leopard print hijab - can really tie it all together. What do you think?

HIJAB FLICKS

Young Muslim women and Muslimahs wearing modern hijab and clothing. An older sister wearing a long khimar hijab and an abaya - all in black.
Modern vs. Traditional. In terms of how these Muslim women are dressed, it would seem apparent that the younger sisters are more modern with their hijab than the older sister dressed in black. But, some might say that the idea that you must wear only black is not a traditional rule of hijab and that the one who wears all black is more modern (i.e. newer) than the ones who do not. Any thoughts?

Fashion in Istanbul!

I was doing my usual fashion look up, and when I do this, I'm not just researching hijab fashion -- just any fashion. From there I get my inspiration for "hijabified" outfits. So I was looking through some street style blogs and I came across one in Istanbul, Turkey. I was like, 'hey! turkey's a muslim country! here's my chance to see what muslim girls are wearing on the streets over there!" My enthusiasm died on the like, third page where I had only seen one hijabi photo so far. Although their style there is amazing and different, I really wanted to see more 'islam-driven' outifts. But, of course it's my duty to report back here and give you the scoop so I'm going to save you all that time of going through the site only to find the few pictures, so let's analyse the ones I found right here and now...

<<

<<< This picture is just soo cute! I love how she casualized a dress with a mere long sleeve top and clutch (which by the way is adorable). Flats were a good choice because this particular way she's wearing the dress would look terrible with pumps. Very nice. very cute. For you reading out there, look for those dressed hidden deep in your closet that you wore when you were younger. If you can still fit into them, and they're only a bit shorter then try this look out! I've done it. I like it. Tell me how it goes.
Ok, I just want to point out the building in the background. How gorgeous is that? That's it. Istanbul is definatly on my "places to go" list. Visit http://www.istanbulstreetstyle.com/ maybe you'll see me on there one day ;)

I'm here! I'm here!

Assalamualikum!
Sorry I haven't been posting for a while, but insha allah I will be posing even more regularly from now on. As a hijabifashionista, however I HAVE been thinking about this blog and about hijabi fashion more and more and have come up with some more ideas and discussion topics -- so leave your comments please! It really motivates me knowing that you're out there reading!

HIJAB FLICKS

Image of Girls in Hijab
If a picture can speak a thousand words, what story does this one tell?
