Long skirts picked from Debenhams

I love window shopping online but when I'm at the malls, I always ended up buying something! lol :D Today, I window shopped at Debenhams and these are what I found, skirts! I don't know if they have here in Kuwait, I think I have to check their branch here this weekend.

Natural mono print long skirt

I love this skirt, the design is simple yet adorable. I'm a black and white fanatic so I think this will be perfect for me. Suitabel for long sleeve t-shirt to wear outdoors or probably to pair it with jacket over a cute t-shirt or sleeveless.

What I love in this skirt is the style and color, it could be worn with formal evening blouse or simply wear it casually with any matching tops.

This style of skirt can be found in any stores here in Kuwait, what I like most is there will be no need for ironing, it will be prefect for travelling.

Looks very chic and comfy, I like to wear it with floral or printed tops to look more attractive.

This is the best for me, very flexible style! To be worn with long sleeve t-shirt, formal jacket, printed tops or anything you fancy.

Spring Yellow Jacket

Some sisters out there might wonder if they can wear jacket on spring and summer season, well...the answer is yes of course, it just depends upon the materials of the clothes your are going to wear. The yellow jacket above is one of the samples that you can wear on spring. For me, yellow always go well with black, I found it more attractive to be worn in that combination. I chose multi-colored bangles and printed scarf to break the black and yellow solids which made the pair looks fascinating.

Holy Designers.. continueeeed! and will continue

Next designer from the event "Kuala Lumpur" is... (drumm roolll pleeeasee)

Syaiful Baharim

!!!

OK JUST LOOK AT THAT DRESS!! That has got to be one of my favorite hijabi dresses I've seen so far in all my research!! Although, I do hope I see more, because as nice as it is, I want BETTER!

The next few designs are not from the event : "Kuala Lampur".

This could definatly be worn with a hijab! And look how gorgeous it is!!

YAY! Syaiful makes long sleeve dresses! They're Hijabi friendly :D hehe I should copyright that term ahaha

gorgeous!

What an amazing designer! Definatly going to be one of my top fav designers!

Holy Designers.. continueeeed! and will continue

I came across not one, not two.. and I'm not too sure how many! BUUUT what I do know, is that there's a fashion week in Malaysia called "Kuala Kampur Fashion Week". It's funny. I read like a whole poorly written article and ended up thinking that Kuala Kampur was a designer! ahaha. Nope. It's the title of the event. There were over 100 MUSLIM DESIGNERS!! ONE HUNDRED!! That's a LOT of blogging and probably a HECK OF S SHOW! dayyaaam i wish I could have been there! I'm soo impressed by how many there are!
So right now, I'll be profiling one outstanding designer who's designs I really love, insha allah I'll get back to post even more later on.

FENY MUSTAFA:

I love this head gear!! hehe
this is "by Feny Mustafa" .. i know it's not hijab, or Feny for that matter.. but i think he's worth posting ;)

wow! i love it! not exactly "wearable" but sparks some ideas.. light tunics, bright colors... catch my drift?

In love with Green Accessories

It seemed that I'm in love with green color this year, I never had a single green outfit nor accessories for the previous years but I think this is how life goes on, it changes all the time because I found green very attracttive nowadays. I started the year 2008 by buying some green outfits and accessories....even at home accessories...I bought green bedsheet last month!

I found the sleeveless tunic above while browsing for some green outfits and it was one of my choices since it will be very suitable for this season. I paired it with bolero jacket to cover the sleeve of course with matching pants, hijab and accessories. The tunic could also be worn over long sleeve t-shirt but I prefer to wear it with bolero jacket because I found it more comfortable and modest of course.

Green all over!

Haha i'm just joking around. I'm actually in love with this picture as well as many others that i'm going to post other days.. you know, to keep you coming to the site! hehe.

I like it! And see? she's wearing sunglasses! yay!

Yellow Stripe Tunic

Of course I knew the picture above is not modest at all in any sense but I just admired when I saw it online few days ago, in as much, citrus colors are very in nowadays. I want to find a way to wear it modestly, then few minutes ago I stumbled on this jacket below at amazon so I thought it will match the tunic above...I will try to wear it this way:

The jacket would be worn over the sleeveless, paired with the pants and hijab and matching accessories.

Hijabis can wear hoodies!

The most comfortable things in the world are hoodies. The loose, the baggy, the black. I have many. Many people think hijabis cannot wear them, but they can. Really, you can wear anything. In the comfort of your own home, of course. If you like hoodies, let me introduce you to... (drum roll please) THE HOODIE CARDIGAN! You should have atleast one this season! C'mon people, they're adorable!

Don't be discouraged. I like the big baggy hoodies too! Wear em at a summer camp or soccer practice or something. If this were wear-anything-you-want-no-matter-how-it-looks-hijabi.blogspot.com
then i would tell you that you can wear the big baggy hoodie every day of the week. But it's not. And I'm not. What i AM telling you to wear is the hoodie cardigan!

Pulling off that "jeans and a t-shirt" look!

HijabiFashionistas don't need to look all primped up, EVERY day! Just like non-hijabis, we need our 'jeans and a t-shirt' days. I'm sure you all agree. How does one pull of this look? Let's find out, shall we....

I put together this look. It's super basic. Here are some tips for spring shopping if you're planning on buying tees like this one -- and if you don't already know, they're called 'graphic tees'

-----> If you're planning on buying a graphic tee, go for environmentally friendly prints. Just like the one above. You'll be sending a strong message out to people out there... not only that, though, enviro. fashion (as i like to call it) is HOT in fashion today.. so get shopping, graphic tees will almost always be your wallet's friend. :)

--------> If you're going for a jeans and a tee shirt look, then don't wear your best Proenza Schouler bag.. please. Keep the bags on the low key.. you know - slouchy, or vintage, looking bags. However, one of the hottest trends for this look this spring, is the CANVAS BAG -- usually very inexpensive and a lot of them are printed with some enviro friendly saying on them! I love 'em!

---> solid hijabs please! This look is very basic, so don't kill it with a patterned or frilly hijab -- which may look good on other outfits.... just not this one.

----> ok, these wide leg jeans are just amazing! they're like very nice sweats! hehe

you wanted to know how to pull off a tee and jeans look? well, there you go.

Multi-Colored Accessories

One of the trends this season is the multi-colored outfit or accessories. Below is one of my chosen way to wear it.

I chose combination of black and white because aside from it was my favorite combination, I found it very modest to pair with these colorful accessories. Any of the hijab colors presented above will also look beautiful.

UPDATES: NEW SITE COMING SOON

Salam everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know that I'm getting ready to put up the new welovehijab.com site. It will take a few days to complete so starting tomorrow, you will notice that welovehijab.com doesn't lead to this blog anymore. You can still access older posts by using the following URL: http://preciousmodesty.blogspot.com and inshallah, by next Monday (March 31,2008), the new and improved welovehijab.com will be up and running!

The site could be up sooner than that, but I don't want you to keep checking everyday when there's nothing there. (I know your time is precious.) If you want,  you can add your email address to my newsletter list and I'll let you know when the new site is up and ready to go. The newsletter sign up form is at the top of the sidebar (see the yellow text).

Ok, inshallah, I'll see you all next week!

Beautiful Hijabi

I found this image of Sitti Norhaliza at Flicker this morning and I thought of posting it here. I just love the image. She looks gorgeous in her hijab.

Black and white...

Cuute!
click on the image for a larger view.

BAM! I like this one!

(click on picture for prices and larger image)

Wide leg, print, gladiator sandals, sunglasses bright light coat, wow! who knew you could have soo much spring incorporated into one outfit? I did. :D Annnd now you do too!

OK so how great is this outfit? I'm IN LOOOVE with this outfit!

take note of the sunglasses, they're VERRY in this spring!
Also, I mentioned earlier how you shouldn't go head to toe in one color, but have a pop of color, and HERE IT IS! The example of your dreams ladies and gentlemen! ... well mostly ladies, but if there is a man out there reading that's cool too! Really, it is. NONO, don't leave now...
haha.. i crack myself UP!

sunglasses, lighter coats, wide legs.. need i say more? IT"S SPRING!

(Click on photo for prices and a larger view)
I Love spring. It's sooo refreshing after a gloomy winter. In some places *cough winnipeg cough* it's not yet warm enough to completly rid yourself of your winter coat, but it's about time to invest in a lighter one. A brighter one. A cuter one. A nicer one.
Hijabifashionista Tip #...I lost count
Sunglasses glamourize ANY outfit, and we should all learn to love them if we haven't already!
.........
LOOK LOOK LOOK! it's a wide leg jean! hooray! hooraah! Buy a pair! shaazaa!
Again.. all the items in the picture above are from http://www.mangoshop.com/ and the hijab is from http://www.thehijabshop.com/

Dress it up!

(Click on the photos for a larger image)
Everything from www.mangoshop.com, hijab from www.thehijabshop.com

Long skirts are a definite must for hijabis! They're great for dressing up for an occasion and flowy boho looking ones are ALWAYS flattering. If you're short and you don't think you can pull them off, you can! Wear 'em with heels! And the heels don't have to show you know? It's a common misconception. Too many people think that the skirt should end at the ankle.. well, maybe if you were wearing flats! But with heels, only the the front of the heel should show, like where the skin stops showing, or at a maximum- a bit of the skin on your foot. If you're short, this will give you extra height without looking like you're trying too hard.

I like tank tops. Many of them are verrry chic. I hope you know, that as hijabis you can't wear tank tops. However, as hijabifashionistas, you should know (or now know) that you can wear them with something under, or on top! Blazers is what I am trying to focus on right here in the photo above. I think all hijabis, nono scratch that. All women should have a few blazers. Every occasion is a blazer occasion! So they are gggrrreeeaat investments. GO INVEST! hehe

SPRING IS IN THE AIR...

Spring! SRIIINNG! IT'S SPRING alhamdulilah!
I am soooo oover winter! I'm soo happy spring finally arrived! I honestly dislike winter.. other than winter fashion.. i don't like the season at all! So it's spring. WOOO. what does that mean to you? pack away your winter clothing, grab your wallet (or your parents') and head to the mall for a few key spring pieces!
Look at the picture above and note the POP OF COLOUR hijabis need to learn to have. As you can see there is a red jacket in there. Now that it's too warm to wear your coat, don't buy a boring colored jacket. Buy a bright, casual one. Red is nice. However, and here's a hijabi rule, don't go head to toe in one color, incorporate 2, a maximum 3 colors in one outfit!

Hijabi Women to Admire

Assalamu Alikum and helllooo!

I'm introducing a new 'sect' of my blog! I think that we should recognize other hijabis around the world which I really think will help us unite more as a muslim ummah and at the same time, by learning the stories of these women, we may be inspired to wear the hijab, or even just strengthen our belief and our will for wearing it!

The first woman .. will be introduced soon!

Wedding Hijab Style

Wearing hijab in your wedding day is not a hindrance for you to look fashionable. In fact a hijabi bride looks so pure and clean, like a maiden in Paradise. So, are you planning to wear hijab in your wedding day, then this is one of the most beautiful way to wear it.

Hijabi Avatars... a good laugh.

Is it just me, or are muslims like, taking over the internet? For instance, on facebook, whatever group I join all the comments are posted by arabs... whether it be muslim names or how the message board on most groups in completly in Arabic, which drives me nuts because for one, the letters are small enough, and it's hard enough to read them when they're the size of your hand! Annnnd if they're not writing with an arabic keyboard, they're using numbers like 3,7,6..? And I was doing that hijab fashion 'research' again and I come across these avatar cartoon things with hijabs on! I'm not saying it's a bad thing.. until we get pictures like this...

Is that a corset? ahaha

Hmm... I like the earring! not. She's shopping though. Using my hijabifashion tips... haha

Yes. I do think that's a bikini top over a black long sleeve. Nicee tryyy!

Ahaha LA HOWLA WALA GUWATA ILLA BILLAH! her shirt is see through! ahahahaaa

haha, I'm just kidding around, though. I'm not actually scrutinizing
these poor cartoons! they're funny, and at least these major internet companies are recognizing that there ARE hijabi women online! It's funny when you're talking to one of your friends, onnnn let's say, Yahoo! and they're hijabis, but their avatars are like cartoon versions of themselves MINUS the hijab. Long, shiny black hair is flowing out of the avatars head, and you're like.. okay.. BUT NOW YOU CAN HAVE HIJABI AVATARS!

P.S. Please do not try to imitate the outfits these things are wearing... god forbid we start dressing like that. AHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAAAAA

FIND DU JOUR

Picture of Spiegel shrug that works with hijab and islamic clothing. Today's find is this cute little shrug at Speigel.com. Why do I like it?

1. The fabric. - It's a linen and viscose (fine rayon) blend which makes it lightweight and comfortable to wear all spring and summer long.

2. It has a twisted effect at the sleeve cuffs and hem which give it a unique flair.

3. The colors. - I love gray and pink, and this shrug is available in both colors.

This really is a perfect little layering piece and you can check out last week's Hijab Q and A to see an example of how I'd style it.

HIJAB DON'T : TRANSPARENCY

Picture of a woman wearing hijab with see through clothing.

This picture comes from a fashion show that was held in Malaysia in 2007. Although this picture is about a year old, the outfit that it showcases falls right in line with a fashion trend for Spring 2008, transparent clothing.

Why is this a Hijab Don't? One of the aspects of hijab (in terms of Muslim women's clothing in general), is that the clothes shouldn't show off the shape of your body. I think it's pretty obvious that we can see the shape of the model's legs here. A better option would be to wear an a-line skirt under the sheer dress and a long sleeve tee for arm coverage.

Modest way of Wearing Sleeveless Tunic

I found this cute sleeveless tunic at Spiegel and I really like the color and style, so I searched something to complete it and these are what I found:

Wear the long sleeve t-shirt under the sleeveless tunic. This could be worn also with black hijab but I chose floral to break the solid. I also chose gold color bag and shoes to match with the jewelry. A fashionale colored jewelries esp. combination of red-orange and black can also match with this pair. Explore!

Hijab Outfit

Lesson: Hijabi-fy and outfit in a store.
OK.. From now on, next time you see a store mannequin or a billboard advertising some kind of outfit, imagine how you could make that a hijabi - oufit. Now, I'm not talking about some girl in short - shorts and a bikini top.. HHAHAH.. i'm talking like a tube top or sundress or something like that which we will all start to see soon seeing as summer collections are starting to be shipped into all our favorite stores! Think to yourself; does the outfit need a blazer to cover the arms and show the pattern on the shirt? Or maybe this t-shirt just needs a long sleeve top underneath it because it just has a little design on this part of it. That sundress is cute... but how can I wear THAT? Can I add a long sleeve top underneath it and wear it with skinnies? Hmmm.. these are all good ideas! What can you come up with?

A forever21 ad: add some pants and a hijab.. maybe a longer sleeved top if that's better for you?
pants from mangoshop.com and hijab from thehijabshop.com

Hijabi Pant Solution: the wide leg

Wide leg, wide leg, doodoodoooo!
Yes, I do love them THAT much! It's like an answer to the hijab pant problem that soo many people are having. I sometimes get comments that some pants are too tight, but you can't complain here, oh no sir-eee! Wide leg jeans are sold everywhere now. However, I have to be honest and say that not all wide leg pants look good on everyone. HOWEVER, I'm not talking about short people and how they can't wear them. NOPE! because THEY CAN! It is harder though! Go to different shops, try on different pairs. Ask the people working there or bring an honest friend shopping with you, and ask their opinion. I have a pair of wide legs and I love them! They may take a little getting used to, but just know that you look great in them and try not to be so self-conscious the first time you wear 'em, because it's really a big change from skinny jeans or boot cut or even the flare! I think everyone should have a pair of wide legs in their closet. My pair start at the hips, and I like them like that.. however, I am trying to find ones that start higher (well i have found them, yeah. But i'm waiting for a sale.. teehee). Check out this photo I made.. (Don't laugh. well actually you can because I'm not that computer- savvy, and pasting the hijab on top of this outfit was the best I could do :D)
Stop laughing for one second and look at how simple this outfit is! A nice hijab, a nice wide-leg, and a solid top is a complete chic outfit just for you! You can add a clutch if you like, (this one is from forever 21) and to spice it up a bit more, wear a necklace along with it! If you're short and can't find ones at your length, don't be discouraged! buy them a bit longer and wear them with heels. Your legs will look endless! And if you're tall, you can wear them with or without heels!

P.S. Just imagine it's a long sleeve top!
Hijab - thehijabshop.com (of course) - £6.95
Wide Leg Pants - forever21.com (love that store!) - $24.90

Holy Designers.. continued...

Salaam to all my hijabifashionistas out there!!
Of course I was doing my usual research (if that's what you would call it..) and I found another hijab designer label!! It's called "VHARDA". As it turns out the online clothing store will be opening June 2008! I honestly can't waitt!!
on june first, check out this site;
www.vharda.com

Check out the video at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJLqLHGZRGw

If you're not that interested in buying clothing online, then just analyze the outfits in the video and then go to the mall in search of key items. It really helps to make a list! If you'll note, there's a shopping list I put together for hijabi must-haves on the top left hand corner of this blog.. I'm always updating it as well!

So.. some mock outfits of the VHARDA style would go a little like this;

Long baby-doll top: short sleeved, solid color
Long sleeve- solid color to go underneath
Skinny Jeans - not all skinny jeans are very tight, as a hijabi you should be wearing your pants looser than non-hijabis, it's a total no-no and totally inappropriate to be wearing tight jeans! If you're not comfortable in a skinny jean, or can't find ones loose enough, go in search of boot cut jeans, there is a higher chance of you finding loose boot cuts than you finding loose skinny jeans.. but keep your eyes open! Also, make sure they're dark wash -- they never go out of style!
Belt - - Now... you don't have to wear the belt. I know what many people think about belts; they just attract attention to the hips or waiste or what not. However, you have to look at styles and hijabi-fy them! Seriously. Don't wear your belts tight. Wear them loose. Slouching on your shirt. Whatever makes you comfortable, and whatever isn't showing off whatever size you are!

I really like the clothing here. I believe it's modest, chic and I'm soo in love with it! That's just my opinion though! I'm curious to hear what you think... so leave your comments!

HIJAB FINDS : MAXI DRESSES

Picture of a hijab find. Maxi dresses at Old Navy
If you're looking for some affordable maxi dresses to layer with long-sleeve tops, jackets, and cardigans, check out the maxi tube dresses above. Both styles are available in a few different colors and they're all under $30 each.

Just a little fyi, the hawaiian print dress is done in a jersey fabric and so it will show all your curves (and lumps and bumps). If you still choose to buy it, you'll want to wear it over structured pants (like jeans) or wear it with a structured jacket that's long enough to conceal your curves.

MODESTY MAKEOVER : GISELE BÜNDCHEN

We Love Hijab's Modesty Makeover featuring Gisele Bundchen in a plaid jacket, dark jeans, tall brown boots and brown bag
I really like this look. In the pic, Gisele is wearing a glen plain bomber jacket, dark skinny jeans tucked into tall boots, and a matching bag. To make it modest, I choose a babydoll style trench jacket, wide leg jeans, and a cream-colored pashmina for the hijab. Tip: Tucking jeans into your boots is a "hijab don't" because it exposes the shape of your leg... so wear the jeans long - which is more chic anyway in my opinion.

ISLAMIC CLOTHING COLLAGE : ORANGE SHIFT DRESS

An Islamic Clothing collage by We Love Hijab
While putting together the latest Modesty On The Runway collage, I decided to try and find some hijab-ready citrusy clothes. I was so excited to find the dress above. Isn't it beautiful?

They're calling this dress a shift dress, but I don't think that's a good description because shift dresses are typically more formfitting and they're not appropriate for us hijab-wearing girls. This dress however, does flare at the bottom and so it's very modest and appropriate for us to wear.

Because I love it so much (although I don't love the $295 price tag), I created two different options for how to wear it. One is a more subtle look with gray slacks and a gray hijab. The other is a little more unexpected because it includes pinstriped pants and a floral hijab. Either way, you gotta love this dress!

Here are the links:
Satin Shift Dress: DKNY, $295
Floral Hijab: Gucci*, $??
Pinstripe Essential Trousers: ON, $26.50
Jewel Box Wide Leg Pant: Nine West, $42
T-Strap Pumps: Endless, $39.95 - FYI: free overnight shipping!

MODESTY ON THE RUNWAY : CITRUS COLORS

We Love Hijab presents this hijab and modest clothing on the runway feature.
This trend really isn't about hijab or modesty because it's all about the colors. Grapefruit, lemon, lime - anything citrusy will do.

Sometimes, people are afraid to wear really bright colors because they don't know how to work them into their wardrobes. A good rule of thumb is that if the pieces are relatively small, you could do more than one in a bright color. For example, you could wear a bright hijab and a matching bag or shoe.

Alternatively, you could do one large citrusy piece and pair it with neutral colors. And I also love the idea of wearing a black abaya and popping it with a citrus colored hijab. What do you think?

HIJAB APPROVED : SUNDAY SALES

Yay! More than one Hijab Approved™ sale! This one is for Silhouettes which sells a lot of very hijab friendly clothing in plus sizes.

We Love Hijab is a hijab fashion magazine and islamic clothing blog for Muslim women. One piece that I love is this very necessary Poplin Big Shirt.

Perfect for work with wide leg pants or even a skirt. And it comes in so many colors! I am not exactly plus-size but I think I'll be ordering the XL just to see how it fits.

A long time ago, we were talking about the fact that when I find something that is a really good hijab-friendly piece, I'll buy it in every color. This top is a great example of that because it's really affordable -under $30 or under $25 if you buy at least 2 - and it's so versatile. You can wear it with jeans, pants, skirts, even fancy dresses a la Sharon Stone.

Enjoy!

HIJAB Q AND A : FORMAL WEAR

Islamic clothing and hijab for formal occassions

A few readers have been writing in asking about what you can wear for occasions like weddings and proms. And the look above is my answer.

This look will work for practically any dressy occasion that you have to go to. It features a beautiful full gown, a wrap-sweater (left open for coverage) and matching accessories. The pieces that I used for this collage are actually pretty expensive because they are all designer pieces, but with a little digging, you can find similar styles at any price range. What do you think?

MODESTY ON THE RUNWAY : COLORFUL DRESSES

Hijab-ready clothing on the fashion runways
I will forever be a fan of beautiful long dresses and this season the focus is on vibrant colors and bold prints. The only thing missing on these gorgeous gowns is of course the upper-body coverage. But that's easily fixed with a cardigan, blazer, wrap sweater or shrug. What do you think?

(collage created using images from style)

Dress in Style from Spiegel

I was looking for some formal dress this morning and what caught my attention was the Spiegel's spring collection. It's been a long time that I did not able to visit this site and I'm glad I found something I like from their list.
This is hand-crocheted sweater separates with pretty scalloped edges. I really love its color, best worn with dark brown hijab with matching accessories. BUT beware muslim ladies out there, don't show it off like the model above if you will wear this kind of dress, it is recommended to slightly close the jacket since the dress style is quite fitting to th body. Suitable for all occassion!

Metallic Linen Dress
What I like in this dress is the material used and the style of course, I think it will be very comfortable to wear especially when the heat of summer is nearly approaching soon. It could be worn with black hijab or any color that match. Suitable to be worn as casual or as a chic day dress.

Fit and Flare Dress
This is my favorite among the 3 and I'm dying to own! lol :D Yeah, I really love and adored this dress including the accessories! If I have to wear this dress, I will wear it with light clored floral silk hijab to break the solid and to look more attractive. Suitable for career wear or chic day dress.
